From The Sonny Melendrez Collection

When the Spurs faced the Knicks, in the 1999 NBA Finals, I challenged Regis Philbin, while hosting Regis & Kathie Lee from NYC, to a friendly bet:

If the Nicks won, I would send him a pic of myself wearing a Knicks jersey while standing front of the Alamo and if the Spurs won, Regis would be photographed in front of a New York landmark wearing Spurs attire.

Spurs won 4 games to 1.

True to his word, Mr. Philbin stood in front of the Lincoln Center and with the Statue of Liberty behind him, wearing the David Robinson jersey and holding the Spurs banner I had sent him. He shared the bet and these pics on national TV.

What a sport! What a guy!

Rest in peace, Reege.
